Main Actions;

Adaptogen, adrenal restorative/tonic, anti-inflammitory, mucoprotective, antispasmodic, antiseptic, antitussive, blood glucose regulator, antiulcerongenic, estrogenic, expectorant, mild laxative.

 

Commonley used for;

  • Addison’s disease

  • inflammatory conditions, rheumatoid arthritis

  • Urinary tract inflammation

  • Eczema, psoriasis

  • Asthma, bronchitis, cough, upper respitory tract irritations

  • Endometriosis, ovarian cyst, polycystic ovary syndrome, intertility

  • Androgen excess

  • Gastic and duodenal ulceration, Gastritis, reflux

  • muscle cramps

  • adrenal insufficiency/stress

  • irritable bowl syndrome, colic.

Contraindications/precautions

Avoid use in cardiovascular related disorders such as hypertension, arrhythmias, congestive heart failure and renal disorders as well as inflammatory liver disorders, cholestatic, hypoalaemia, oedema and severe obesity.

Persons on liquorice for prolonged periods should be placed on a high potassium, low sodium diet and monitored for increases in blood pressure and weight gain. Hypokalemia can occur at relativity low levels.
